Why does the same prompt produce different images each time?

Randomness is the default

Without a seed value, image generation models use different random initialization each run, producing varied results from identical prompts. This is intentional—it gives users variety.

Using seeds for reproducibility

Set a seed parameter (usually an integer) to lock the random initialization. Same prompt + same seed = same image, every time. Useful for A/B testing, documentation, or bug reports. Different seeds with the same prompt produce variations on a theme.

Seed considerations

Check your API's seed range—some accept 0-4294967295, others have smaller ranges. Not all parameters interact the same way with seeds; changing guidance or steps might produce different results even with the same seed.

When to use seeds

Use seeds in production when consistency matters—branding, user expectations, testing. Omit seeds when you want natural variation for creative or exploratory use.
